Sometimes I just sits

There’s an old saying you may know.

“Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just sits”.

There’s so much to think about.  We think about our family and friends.  Our job and career.  Current events and social issues.  Money and finances and retirement.  Entertainment, books, movies, television, and sports.  Our plans and goals and dreams.  Our health and how we are spending our time.  The list can go on and on.

I get it.  As a small business owner I have a lot to think about all the time.  There’s marketing, technology, updating my web site and writing blog posts, and working on learning new things.

In the past few months I’ve been making a daily list of things to do just that day.  I have a big list of things to do but making a smaller list helps me get important things done when they need to be.  It’s also a good feeling when I can cross an item off of my list.

I usually have many important things I can do.  They are all valuable and would be beneficial.  So what should I do first?

One day as I was working on making a decision on what to do I just sat down.  I closed my eyes for a minute.  I concentrated on my breathing.  I let my mind wander it began to calm down.  I didn’t try to think of the options of one action over another.  I didn’t clean up my desk, check my phone, or do anything.  I was trying not to think.

After just a few minutes – maybe five or so – I thought again about what to do.  It was much clearer on what the better option was then and I got started.

Sometimes a change of scenery helps.  Getting outside can help also.  It doesn’t need to be a special place, although a quiet spot is good.  Of course the opposite can be true too.  Getting up and moving can also help to clear your mind.

Having time to let your mind calm down and wander some is one of the great benefits of massage.  You don’t have any responsibilities.  You don’t even have to talk to me during the massage.  I’ll just ask a few questions about the pressure and temperature to make sure all is going well.

When your massage is over you may find your mind much clearer.  The problems that you came in with may not look so big and intimidating.  You may discover a simple solution that had been just out of your grasp.  A creative idea may pop into your mind.

By the way, your muscles will feel great too.
